What Is Likely To Happen If
I Press Charges?
- A Police Officer will come out to see you and take a statement. They will then investigate the case and connect evidence, and the offender will be arrested and interviewed.
- The case will then be presented before the Crown Prosecution for a Threshold Test, where a decision will be made whether a Charge is to be made and on what grounds.
- If the offender is Charged, they will be given a date for their first court appearance. Bail conditions may or may not be opposed on his/her movements.
- During the first court appearance the offender will be given the opportunity to offer a plea. Depending on this will indicate whether further court appearances will be required or a trial set.
- You may also be called as a witness at this stage.
