A refuge is a safe house providing temporary accommodation where women who are experiencing domestic violence can live free from abuse. Women are able to bring their children although age limits do vary with each refuge. Leeway’s refuges allow male children up to 16 years of age to stay.
Refuge addresses are confidential, there are over 250 temporary accommodations in the UK, and women can chose to travel as far away or to stay as near to home as they wish.
Any woman who needs to, can go into a refuge, whether single, married, with or without children, working or unemployed.
They can return to the services at any time, regardless whether they have previously left voluntarily to return home or to stay with family and friends on a short term basis.
